Martha Holgado, Peron daughter wannabe

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina _ Martha Holgado, who insisted she was the daughter of the late Argentine strongman Juan Domingo Peron despite DNA evidence to the contrary, has died. She was 72.
Holgado, who claimed to be the product of an affair between Peron and her mother, died at her home after an unspecified illness, lawyer Santos Cifuentes told The Associated Press.
Cifuentes said that until her death, Holgado had vigorously disputed the results of two DNA tests that found no biological link between her and Peron. The lawyer said he has asked the court for retesting, arguing that a private lab commissioned by Holgado in England found there was too much formaldehyde in the samples of Peron's bones for reliable results.
In a telephone interview, Cifuentes said the woman's son, Horacio Wieszezuk, plans to continue pressing her claim in court.
An authoritarian leader admired by many and reviled by others, Peron radically transformed Argentina's economic and political life and, along with his glamorous wife, Evita, directed Argentina's wealth to grateful legions of poor, urban workers.
He died in 1974, during his third term as president, and the Peronist party he founded 61 years ago still dominates the country.
